Why Asbestos is a Risk in Government Buildings
Many government-owned buildings were constructed or refurbished during the peak use of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), particularly between the 1950s and 1990s.
As a result, asbestos can still be found in a wide range of public sector properties, including Office buildings and administrative centres, Libraries and community hubs, Civic buildings and town halls, Leisure centres and public facilities and Depots, storage facilities, and maintenance buildings.
These buildings are often in constant use by staff, contractors, and members of the public. Maintenance works, upgrades, and refurbishment projects can disturb ACMs if not properly identified and managed.
Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, duty holders within government bodies must ensure asbestos risks are properly assessed, managed, and monitored.

Asbestos Surveys Across Government & Public Sector Estates
Local Authorities & Councils
Councils are responsible for large and diverse property portfolios, often including hundreds of buildings.
We support local authorities with Portfolio-wide asbestos surveys, Asset register development and maintenance, Planned re-inspection programmes and Refurbishment project support.
Our structured approach helps ensure consistency and compliance across all properties.
Council Offices & Administrative Buildings
Office-based environments still present asbestos risks, particularly in older buildings.
We regularly survey Office spaces and meeting rooms, Ceiling voids and service risers, Plant rooms and building services and Storage areas and basements.
Our team works efficiently to minimise disruption to daily operations.
Public Buildings & Community Facilities
Buildings such as libraries, community centres, and leisure facilities are heavily used by the public.
We carry out asbestos surveys in Public access areas and reception spaces, Sports halls and recreational facilities,Changing rooms and welfare areas and Back-of-house and maintenance areas.
Safety and public protection are always a key priority.
Depots, Workshops & Operational Buildings
Many government bodies operate depots and maintenance facilities that may contain asbestos in industrial materials.
We conduct surveys in Vehicle depots and storage units, Workshops and repair facilities, Warehouses and logistics buildings and External structures and roofing systems.
These environments often require a more technical and planned approach.
