For Health and Safety reasons the material must be double wrapped or double bagged in:

  • TRANSPARENT 1000 gauge polythene or
  • 500 gauge temporary protective polythene sheeting (TMP) such as Visqueen, or
  • a similar robust transparent material

Once the asbestos has been double wrapped or double bagged in one of the above, it must be sealed with tape. Bags and sheeting can be purchased from a builder's merchant or DIY store.

A maximum of 200kg of this material will be accepted at any site. If you have a large amount of asbestos to dispose of you will need to arrange for this to be disposed of through a private contractor, for which you maybe charged.

Please telephone the site before visiting to check there is sufficient space available within the asbestos containers.

Householders can deliver their domestic asbestos to the HWRCs. We advise you to take necessary precautions by wearing a face mask and gloves when handling hazardous materials such as asbestos. Asbestos is taken at your own risk.

Keep the asbestos damp and avoid breaking it if possible to reduce the risk of airborne fibres. Wrap asbestos in plastic sheeting or bags for transportation.

When on site, please see a member of staff as the asbestos container is kept locked for health and safety reasons.

Asbestos products collected at the HWRCs are transported to a designated licensed landfill site for safe disposal.
